Our Legacy in Energy Education
Ocean Star Museum & Educational Center
In 1995, a group of passionate offshore energy professionals and innovators founded the Offshore Energy Center (OEC) to expand public understanding of offshore energy systems.
The OEC purchased a retired offshore oil rig in Galveston, Texas, and refurbished it to become the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum.
Offering a one-of-a-kind educational experience, the Ocean Star provides the history and significance of offshore energy to everyday life, as well as the industry knowledge of the experience of working on a real drilling rig.
Offshore Energy Center: Learning Beyond the Museum
The OEC expanded its energy educational programs to include all oil and gas concepts, creating the Mobile Oilfield Learning Unit (MOLU). This traveling STEM program brought energy education directly to schools and communities.
The MOLU later evolved into the Mobile Energy Learning Unit (MELU), featuring interactive modules that covered a broader range of energy education, not limited to oil and gas.
Through these mobile learning programs, students nationwide engaged in interactive energy education right at their school or community.
The Next Generation
In 2023, our foundation expanded its mission to include the full spectrum of the energy industry, becoming the Energy Education Foundation (EEF).
EEF retired the MELU program and launched a new mobile learning experience: EnergyXP. This program introduces middle school students to diverse energy concepts with a collection of 16 hands-on and digital STEM activities.
An innovative, app-based program, EnergyXP bridges foundational STEM learning to energy-industry application. Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), EnergyXP engages students natural curiosity in energy science to showcase the relevance of energy in every day life. Through this dynamic learning experience, students are introduced to meaningful career exploration at a pivotal age.
