What is EnergyXP?

The Legacy

In 1995, a group of energy professionals and innovators created the Offshore Energy Center to better educate about the purpose and power of offshore energy systems. They officially bought the Ocean Star Museum in 1997, establishing a unique experience that teaches about

Oilfield Energy Center

As The Mobile Oilfield Learning Unit was introduced over 20 years ago by the Offshore Energy Center, this technology engaged students directly to the energy industry through hands-on STEM education and provided early exposure to oil and gas concepts, as well as career path exploration before students reached high school. Our previously updated Mobile Energy Learning Unit (MELU) program featured interactive STEM modules for an enhanced curriculum, targeted for middle school education.

The Student Experience

In 2025, EEF retired the MELU design and launched a new mobile learning program: EnergyXP.

This program offers students a collection of 16 hands-on and digital STEM activities that introduce them to diverse energy concepts. Promoting curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking, each activity connects learning modules to real-world applications in energy science.

An innovative program that strengthens foundational STEM skills, EnergyXP was designed with updated curriculum in mind, matching the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). and inspire the next generation of energy professionals by showcasing the relevance of energy in everyday life.

Standards Based & Educator Approved

EnergyXP uses the 5E Instructional Model, which encourages curiosity, hands-on investigation, concept development, application to new contexts, and ongoing assessment to deepen understanding.

This framework creates a structured yet flexible learning experience that puts students at the heart of the process. It encourages learners to actively investigate, build their understanding of scientific concepts, and apply their knowledge to real-world phenomena or engineering challenges.

Expanding Education with EnergyXP

The 6 by 26 campaign is a multi-phase initiative for the expansion of the EnergyXP program. Our goal is to develop and deploy six fully operational EnergyXP mobile units by the end of 2026 to schools and communities around the US.

With your support, we can provide engaging and advanced educational programs to future energy leaders, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.

Reach out to our Executive Director Kristen Barley at kbarley@energyeducation.org for more information on how your company or organization can sponsor the next unit.
