Step by Step Guide

Before the Visit

  • Confirm there is sufficient space for the MELU, such as a cafeteria or gym.
  • Develop a schedule for the day(s) of the visit and provide it to the Energy Education Foundation.
  • Inform custodial staff of any support needs, such as removing center bars from double doors, electrical access, etc.
  • Recruit any additional chaperones.
  • Administer the MELU Quiz to students as a pretest.
  • Complete the recommended supporting activities.


During the Visit

  • Bring students into the designated MELU space according to the predetermined schedule.
  • MELU facilitator will distribute pencils and passes (workbooks), explaining the instructions and tips. 
  • Count students off, giving them numbers 1-6.
  • Instruct students given the number 1 to proceed to MELU Station 1, students given the number 2 to proceed to MELU Station 2, etc.
  • At their assigned stations, students should spread out across the four activities, with no more than 2 students per activity.
  • The MELU Facilitator will guide students as they rotate around all activities on each station, then around all stations.
  • Monitor students to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • If students have questions, the MELU Facilitator will have answer keys available for adult chaperones.
  • Once students have been to all stations, the MELU Facilitator will gather them for closing remarks.
  • Students may keep their pass and pencil as they return to their regular schedule.


After the Visit

  • Review the pass answers, using the teacher guide, and any other supplemental activities.
  • Administer the MELU Quiz as a post-test.

  • Utilizing additional resources can help to enforce concepts and drive post-test success.
