Mobile Energy Learning Unit

Launching Summer 2025

The Legacy

The Mobile Oilfield Learning Unit was introduced over 20 years ago, designed for students in the energy industry through hands-on STEM learning. Featuring six stations with 24 activities aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, it provided early exposure to oil and gas concepts, helping students explore career pathways before high school.

The Next Generation
The Energy Education Foundation is proud to announce a fully redesigned Mobile Energy Learning Unit (MELU), hitting the road in the Summer of 2025. The MELU will provide immersive and interactive STEM experiences for students in grades 6-8 across the nation. With upgraded technology, new hands-on activities, and an enhanced curriculum aligned with national standards, the MELU brings real-world energy concepts directly to schools. This dynamic mobile lab fosters curiosity and deeper engagement with the energy industry.

The Student Experience

Students engage in a dynamic, hands-on experience from the moment they arrive. Guided by the MELU app, they explore energy concepts through interactive challenges. A final post-test measures their progress, ensuring they leave with a deeper understanding of energy and its impact.

Hands-On Energy Exploration

Aligned with national standards, MELU activities immerse students in real-world energy concepts. They explore energy sources, geographic formations, and material permeability, while hands-on experiments include coding, building circuits, and analyzing water samples. Each activity enhances critical thinking and provides real-world energy science applications.
